Poor Oreo is so stressed out. I would be, too, if I was an 8 year old dog who was just surrendered at the shelter. Oreo had been here once before but was returned to his owner back in March of 2017. Now, his surrender form states his owners can no longer have him in their building. The form also states that Oreo has lived with children, but doesnt specify ages and says that Oreo doesnt get along with other animals but provides no other information. That all being said, I spent some time with Oreo on Saturday just after hed been surrendered the night before. He was understandably confused and independent. Hes a big boy and strong on the leash, but was definitely happy to get outside for a bathroom break.
We headed into a smaller run and I let him do his thing, which involved a lot of pacing back and forth. He did allow me to pet him and check him out (he has some sores on the tops of his paws and honestly could use a really good bath), but what he really wanted to do was see what the heck was going on around him - lots of volunteers walking around, lots of dogs and noise. Oreo didnt seem interested in toys nor did he seem to know any commands but was so stressed out that I wont write off the possibility. Well check back in on him soon and get a proper leash test done. This older gentleman is so deserving of a quiet and stable home to spend the rest of his years in.
